Overview of WindTree in their own words

'WindTree is located in the Santa Cruz Mountains in Northern California. WindTree is privately owned, sacred land for community gatherings, workshops, family reunions, special events, prayer and meditation and conscious connection with Spirit and Mother Earth. We welcome visitors to lodge here enjoying the natural beauty, expansive views, humbling and awe-inspiring treasures of WindTree in a retreat like setting. Indoor accommodations and several sites for camping are available.

WindTree is nestled high in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Elevation: (2,800- 3,040 ft.) toward the end of the mountain ridge in Northern California. Accessing the property is an approximate 45-50 minute drive from the surrounding towns of Los Gatos, Santa Cruz, Watsonville and Gilroy. The land offers majestic views of the Monterey Bay to the west, Santa Clara Valley to the north and Hollister/ Gilroy to the east. The winding roads to the property bes tow dramatic views of the Santa Cruz mountain area, on either side, resembling the peace and calm of the High Sierras. WindTree is comprised of meandering paths amongst Madrone, Pine, Oak and Manzanita and close to walking trails to Uvas County State Park.

Indoor accommodations and numerous sites for camping are available including a Council Lodge and 7 rustic cabins. The present living spaces and buildings are on about 2.5 acres of 64 acres of wilderness. Raised organic garden beds and fruit trees enhance the central living area with open fire pits and lawns for relaxing. WindTree is self-contained and "off the grid" using mostly solar power for electricity and has its own well for all its water needs. There is a large Medicine Wheel for prayer and ceremony and a 40 x 60 foot "dancers deck" for creative movement and yoga tucked away in the pine forest. WindTree has access to a beauti ful vista point in which a large redwood Peace Pole has been erected overlooking the entire Monterrey Bay.

Council Lodge: Full size kitchen. 13 beds upstairs all in one circular space. Some single, some queen size beds. Open space dorm like sleeping accommodations. Council Lodge has 4 toilets and 2 showers. 13-16 occupants for sleeping. The large octagonal Council Lodge holds 30-35 for dinning or meeting.

Steeple Lodge: Can be used for gatherings and a tea, coffee and breakfast center. 1 kitchen, 1 bathroom. Group meeting space. Office loft. Art center with open supplies available for guest use upon request. 2 futons, 1 loft bed and 1 double roll-a-way bed for sleeping. 5-6 occupants for sleeping.

7 additional cabin accommodations:

Cabins are located in a forest setting, and include electricity. All cabins are insulated and have either a wood burning stove and/or gas heating systems for heating. Smaller rustic cabins do not have bathrooms but are close to nearby shared bathrooms and showers.

  • Hobbit Cabin: 1 full Futon with sleeping pad. Self-contained kitchenette. Total: 1-2 occupants
  • Sunrise Cabin: 1 room Queen size bed, 1 room with 2 bunk beds. Living room couch/ pull out bed. Additional single bed. Total 5-7 occupants.
  • Hummingbird Cabin: double bed in 1 room plus 1 single futon. Total: 2-3 occupants.
  • Outlook Cabin: One living room accommodation with futon bed, children's room with bunk beds. Master suite- queen bed. Total: 4-7 occupants.
  • Critter Cabin: Single bed downstairs, double bed up st airs loft Total: 2-3 occupants.
  • Lily Pad Cabin: Double bed plus pull out double futon. Offers private bath with wheelchair roll in shower. Designated for people with special needs. Total: 2- 4 occupants.
  • Please check for availability of each cabin.

The following items can be requested on site: Ping-Pong, volleyball, massage table, games, percussion instruments, an 2 outdoor wood stoked claw foot bathtubs, marker whiteboard, movie/DVD projector, art supplies, 40' by 60' dance or yoga deck, Medicine Wheel. Camping sites and some tents are available.
Please be aware that we can receive significant amounts of rain from November through May. A few spots are available for vans or campers however they do not have access to electricity or other hookups.
