Hi Al and others who love music and possibly might want to be a live-in
companion!,
Well, first of all you should know that I am in Vancouver, but just 10
minutes from either I-205 and I-5 once you cross over either bridge.
Secondly, I have a possible place for the music studio you talked about,
that has a story to go along with it...so I hope you don't mind a bit of
detail..
I recently moved to a home that has a large shop in the backyard next to a
cool park. The shop has small skywindows across the vaulted roof line for
natural lighting and wired for 110 voltage with multiple plug-ins....it has
a concrete floor, the walls are finished to about 8ft. high but the ceiling
has wood rafters showing... this may  meet your need for a possible music
studio...I possibly could get volunteer help and donations to help  put in a
plywood floor with vinyl floor covering...maybe it might meet your need for
a studio for short term use (like several months)...OK that's chapter one of
my story...
Chapter 2...
my hope is to eventually make it into a self contained studio for two, with
shower and kitchenette, both for living and for music; with a small sleeping
loft for my son who has a mental illness and a live-in companion. He is 30
and loves music. His love of music is what stabilizes him...When he lived
with me in my other home, his biggest concern was that he wanted more
independence...mostly, to play his music at any time for however long he
wanted it and he wanted to smoke in the house...this house with the shop was
the perfect answer for both of us. He can play any time of day or night and
smoke all he wants inside. He has an acoustic guitar, a keyboard and and an
8 track mixer...he loves just creating, although he is not naturally gifted
with his instruments...but he writes incredible poetry and hiphop rap...my
dream is to find someone who loves music to be his live-in companion and
play music with him...their rent would be free.
Unfortunately before I found this place, he was hospitalized in the state hospital for up to 5
months---part of the struggle was needing more independence, but still
needing lots of support... and so now, I am trying to slowly work on
creating it before he returns. Long story short is this may be a possible
place for you to have your studio for short or longer term ...also for the
future you or others may be able to give me leads on someone who loves music
and is great with someone with a mental illness.
My son is very intelligent even in his mental illness...actually won two state chess championships in
5th and 6th grade...he often talks to himself (he has schizoaffective
disorder...which means he has schizophrenia and is also bipolar...) but if
he likes you,he is very capable of having an indepth, deep conversation with
you and would love to listen to you jam... Even in his most challenging
times, he has always handled his musical equipment with great care---they
even let him take his guitar into the hospital, and in reality he probably
will not be back for 3 to 5 months... I am hoping to get volunteer help and
freecycle supplies to transform the shop into a studio/music hangout...any
thoughts, comments or suggestions about musically inclined care-givers,
building supplies, or volunteer help are welcomed!!!
